The camp is for any child with a special need (age 3 to 21) and their siblings and parents. Each year the camp has a theme and crafts, bible study, music, worship and activities such as rock wall climbing, fishing, cooperative games, nature activities and horseback riding work together to bring that theme to life. All campers with special needs will be assigned a “buddy” to facilitate them in getting the most out of their camp experience. Campers will be placed in mixed ability, age appropriate groups of about 10. Each group will have a group leader and an assistant group leader as well as many buddies along with 10 campers. Common bible verses and stories will be studied by all participants, allowing families to go home and talk about what they learned that day.
The cost per camper is $25 with a maximum of $100 per family. The cost includes all craft supplies, a T-shirt and snack and lunch each day. Scholarships are available to families who need them. Please contact Sue Rheingans SueRheingans@aol.com for information about scholarships.
There is a camp nurse on site every day to administer medications and take care of any needs that may arise. Hopefully there will also be a licensed psychologist who works with children with Autism on site each day to help out wherever she may be needed.
The event will take place at a privately held farm and nearly all activities will take place outside with some activities under large tents and trees. The camp is expected to include approximately 100 children and 60 parents. Friday we always have a picnic lunch with a program that kids put on. Everyone is invited.
